While I was enjoying my rootftop day, I was able to experience the city I'm living in in a different way. As if out of the sudden, because my perspective is no longer interrupted by walls or streets, I feel free and my eyesight has grown bigger. And naturally this is just a matter of perspective; but is a great feeling that makes you understand your place in this world.
Think about the last time you were in a rooftop, and you had this need to take photos and gaze at the view. It is literally the only thing you can see: the amazing view. A picture that you are not very familiar with and need to take.
After some wow moments like: "I've never seen the station from above" or "the city looks so green", I started identifying areas: "over there's the river", "there's the Erasmus Bridge and De Rotterdam building", "you can see the port from here", etc. The day was a great opportunity to rate my knowledge of the city, and to increase it, especially because I felt I was in a new layer that I've never been before. I'm always walking around or biking from one place to another, but the fact of being in a tour of rooftops helped me identify buildings that I've just passed by, and of course, make me see the top layer of them.

I encourage you to do the same in your own city: get to know it through its roofs and its high perspective!
